"A home in the jungle of Panama"

Welcome

A warm welkom to the jungle of Panama...

Bambu Guest House is a large comfortable lodge situated in Panama in the small fisherman's village Puerto Lindo. The house is built on the flank of a mountain right at the edge of the Portobelo National Park overseeing the Caribbean Ocean. Its name comes from the big bamboo bush growing in its wild tropical garden. A stay at Bambu Guest House is a true adventure of wild jungle as well as nautical beauty, sun, sand and sailing.

The Guest House consists of three big rooms with each its own bathroom and door straight into the big luscious garden where one will often encounter the local wildlife like monkeys, sloths and tropical birds.

Exploring the untamed beauty of Panama's jungle and sea...

Jungle Expeditions
Exploring the beautiful Portobelo National Park is unique. A local guide will take you through this luscious jungle full of monkeys, sloths, lakes, rivers, birds and butterflies. You can do this expedition by foot, horseback riding or even slide down a mountaintop by canopy.

Bird watching
Bird watching in this park is very easy and rewarding. Its geographical position allows contact with two great mother lodes of avian diversity. Panama is the home of the Resplendent Quetzals and Umbrella birds as well as four types of Macaws and Harpy Eagles. In total the country of Panama boasts an impressive list of 961 species.

Wind/Wavesurfing
There are various beautiful wind- and wave- surf spots in the area of Puerto Lindo. There are reef- and beach breaks for more and less experienced surfers. The picture on the left is taken at a spot near Isla Grande, only a 20 minute boat-ride from the local port. All spots are either quiet or completely deserted. For surfers this coastal area is a true discovery of an undiscovered surfing paradise.

Snorkling and Diving
The coastal area near the guest house has beautiful coral reef and a vivid marine life. A diving school is located only 20 minutes from bambu guest house. A beautiful snorkeling site is only a 10 minute boat ride away from the local port.

Sailing the San Blas
The sailing yacht "Minorca" (50 feet) offers charter trips along the beautiful coast of Panama and the San Blas islands and offers you the vacation of a lifetime. You can enjoy a full-service sailing experience for one or several days. For more information check their website www.oceantrips.com

Kuna Culture
The San Blas Islands are inhabited by the proud and hospitable Kuna Indians who still live in their traditional ways. Visiting this area is a culturally rich experience as well as an adventure. A sailing trip through this area is a once in a life time experience.

Historical Sites
In colonial times the coastal area was the site of storehouses for the gold and silver of South America. It was here that Spanish galleons loaded on treasure for the voyage back to Europe. The pirates of the Caribbean all had their eyes on the treasures of Portobelo. A few of them got their hands on it as well! Definitely worth visiting are the military fortresses that bear testimony to the importance of this site in Colonial times. For scuba dive fanatics the area of Drake's Island, Salmedena Reef, the Three Sisters, and Playa Blanca is not to be missed.
